Artifacts and the Gap: evaluate a modifier
Artifacts are equippable modifiers. Their conditions and trade-offs matter as much as the headline effect.

Artifact basics
Remedy describes Artifacts as modifiers for combat, survivability, exploration and other parts of a build. Untapped Artifacts are found in the world and crafted in the Gap.
Read the entire effect, including its trigger and any trade-off, before equipping it. An effect that sounds strong may rarely activate in the sequence you actually use.

A four-question comparison
| Question | Decision it helps you make |
|---|---|
| What must happen to activate it? | Whether your normal sequence triggers the effect. |
| What changes after activation? | Whether it solves damage, survival, resource or exploration needs. |
| What is the cost or drawback? | Whether another part of the setup becomes less reliable. |
| Can I observe the result? | Whether a controlled encounter can test the choice. |
Editorial comparison method. Read the exact text for your own Artifact; this is not a fabricated item-stat database.
Compare one modifier at a time
Choose a repeated encounter or route. Keep your forms, abilities and settings the same while changing one Artifact. Note whether the condition actually occurs and whether the outcome solves the original problem.
Keep the modifier when it contributes to a useful sequence. If it does not activate reliably, choose a condition that matches what you already do, or intentionally practice a new sequence.
A fourth slot in New Game+
New Game+ unlocks an additional Artifact slot. The extra slot creates another opportunity to combine conditions and effects; it does not establish a universal four-item build.
